Germination Update 🌱 – Broadleaf Plantain (Started April 9th)

We're excited to share that most of the Broadleaf Plantain seeds have successfully germinated! The cotyledons (seed leaves) have gently unfolded, and now we’re looking forward to the next stage—the development of the true leaves. 🌿

You might notice some green water pooling on the surface. This is due to algae, which can spread throughout the container if left unchecked. Thankfully, by using foil to block light from reaching the lower levels, we've prevented algae from forming beneath the surface. However, the top layer still needs some attention.

We’ll be cleaning the area soon, as algae can sometimes produce an unpleasant odor. Now that the seedlings appear strong, we’ll also begin reducing the frequency of misting. This will allow the clay pebbles to dry out slightly between sprays, helping to curb further algae growth.

Algae is a common challenge when germinating in humid environments with light exposure. Some growers avoid this by starting seeds in complete darkness, but that requires extra space—something we aim to minimize in our small-space growing system. That’s why we’ve chosen to keep things simple and manageable, even if it means a little extra cleanup.

We’ll check in again soon with more progress. Until then, have an astonishing day and thank you for growing with us! 🌱💚
