Progress Update on Hydroponic Tomato Growing for the Not Just A Food Program

We’re excited to share the progress of our hydroponic tomato growing project, which is part of our ongoing efforts to support the Not Just A Food Program. The tomato seeds, which were started on March 11, have now germinated and are showing their true leaves. In just 10 days, we’ve already seen significant growth!

We’ll let the plants mature a bit more before moving them into larger containers. These new containers will hold a nutrient solution, and we’ll be setting up four separate containers for the tomatoes, each with wire support. The wireframe will help keep the plants upright as they continue to grow and produce fruit. This support system will also prevent the plants from falling over, encouraging them to grow upwards rather than sprawling out across the space.

By using this vertical growing method, we’ll maximize the available space and increase our capacity for producing fresh tomatoes. These efforts aren’t just about growing food; they’re about creating sustainable, ongoing access to fresh produce for those in need.

As the plants continue to grow, we’ll provide regular updates on their progress. Ultimately, the tomatoes will be a valuable resource for both the participants in the Not Just A Food Program and those involved in growing, maintaining, and caring for the plants. This initiative is a step forward in creating a continuous supply of fresh fruit for the community.

Stay tuned for more updates as we move forward with this exciting project! 🍅🌱
