LIFE Community Project: Building the First Test Grow Dome for Real Change

We are excited to announce a major step forward: the planning and creation of our very first test grow dome.

This dome will be smaller than the full-sized versions we envision for the LIFE Transitional Housing Project, but it is a crucial starting point. It will serve as a real-world model where we can experiment, learn, and refine the process of growing food year-round. More than that, it will become a space for education, teaching how to grow, harvest, and transform plants into products that support health and wellness.

This step is not…

Grow Your Own Mullein:

A Path to Wellness and Self-Reliance

Have you heard about the benefits of Mullein tea, especially for respiratory health? More and more doctors are recommending it for people dealing with lung and breathing issues. But like many helpful herbal options, it often comes with a high price tag—one that many of us simply can’t afford, especially during times of financial strain.

I know that struggle firsthand.

After experiencing a major stroke and open-heart surgery, I was eager to try natural supports like Dandelion and Mullein tea, but quickly found the costs were out of reach. Even though doctors recommend these options, they’re not covered by social assistance and are considered “luxuries.” That didn’t sit right with me. I knew I had to find a different way, and I did.

Growing Mullein Indoors, Year-Round

I started growing my own Mullein and other herbs indoors, right in my apartment, using the Kratky method, a soil-free growing method that works incredibly well in small spaces and requires minimal equipment. Over time, I’ve been able to grow a wide range of plants, from tomatoes and carrots to beans, garlic, herbs, and yes, even Mullein.

For anyone living in and around Oshawa, I can help you get started with everything you need:

  • Mullein seeds

  • Growing containers (made from free, recycled materials)

  • Nutrient solution

  • Step-by-step guidance on setup, care, and harvesting

For those outside Oshawa, I share free guides to help you build your own setup using locally available materials. You only need to source the nutrient mix, which I buy in bulk for around $50—a small cost that supports a year’s worth of growing for me.

Fresh or Dried, It’s All Possible

While fresh Mullein leaves are ideal, I also use a dehydrator to preserve extra harvests for tea, powders, or even spices. A small coffee grinder helps speed up the process. This way, I always have access to the plants I need—for myself and for others.

It's About More Than Just Plants

My recovery wasn’t just about the right nutrients—it was also about movement and commitment. I went from struggling to walk across a room to now walking over 5KM every day. Every step forward, just like every leaf grown, was a part of my healing.

Now I’m sharing what I’ve learned freely because I believe health and wellness shouldn’t come with a price tag. Instead of charging money, I ask for something more valuable: your willingness to learn, grow, and spread the word about the programs I’ve developed to support those most in need.

This isn’t a handout. It’s a partnership, one based on love, growth, and shared responsibility.

Want to Learn More?

If you're in Oshawa and want to try Mullein tea, or learn how to grow your own Mullein and other plants year-round, let’s connect. I can even provide a sample of tea to get you started and show you how easy it is to grow what you need—even in a small space.

As we expand these efforts, more communities will gain access to these zero-cost wellness opportunities.

Health is a right, not a luxury. Let’s grow it together.
