We Grow Blackcap Raspberries:
From Wild Berry to Indoor Harvest
Our journey with Blackcap Raspberries has officially begun—and we’re taking you along every step of the way!
It all started during a walk when I came across a few ripe Blackcaps. Instead of eating them on the spot, I brought them home and carefully dehydrated them for future use. That “future” arrived on July 1st, when I selected one preserved berry to begin our seed-starting experiment.
Here’s how it started:
I placed the berry in a small container of water and left it in a cool, dark spot for just over 24 hours.
After soaking, I gently removed the outer fruit covering to isolate the seeds inside.
From that single berry, I gathered enough seeds to plant 4–5 seeds in each of three separate containers.
In preparation, I pre-moistened the clay pebbles by misting them throughout the day and filled the reservoir with a light nutrient solution (about ¼ strength).
Each container is part of our indoor Kratky hydroponic system—a method we’ve been using successfully for years in small kitchen spaces. In our garden setup, we label each plant with a letter (this one is marked G) to help track and organize the growing process across different species.
🌱 As We Grow Fresh & Indoors This raspberry grow is our first featured example of starting from seed, nurturing to harvest, and then collecting seeds for the next generation. It's a complete cycle, shared in real time with photos and updates you can follow on our platform.
We’ve set up 7 labeled grow stations, each with 3 containers that may hold the same or different plants. Every type will come with its own details—what was planted, how it grows, and what we learn along the way. You’ll be able to explore and compare how different plants thrive under the same conditions.
✨ Follow the As We Grow tab for the latest plant updates. We’re transparent about the entire process—successes and setbacks alike—because every stage is part of the learning.
💚 This project is rooted in wellness. After experiencing a major stroke and undergoing open-heart surgery, I turned to nutrition and homegrown healing as part of my recovery. With the support of a doctor who valued natural options, I began growing hydroponically indoors—right in my kitchen.
Our mission? To show what’s possible with fresh, nutritious plants grown in small spaces and to help others take charge of their health through education, plant-based nutrition, and daily activity.
