Arugula – From Seed to Harvest: As We Grow Together
Welcome to the start of our Arugula: As We Grow series—a journey through the full cycle of growing, from seed to harvest and back again, right from our indoor hydroponic setup.
We kicked things off by planting arugula seeds that we saved from a previous indoor hydroponic grow over a year and a half ago. Carefully dried and stored, these seeds were a reminder of how even small, homegrown harvests can keep giving when we take the time to save what they offer. And despite their age, the seeds didn’t disappoint.
We sowed them in a fresh hydroponic medium and gently misted the surface throughout the day to maintain ideal moisture levels for germination. By evening, we saw the first signs of life—tiny sprouts beginning to emerge. Arugula is known for its quick germination, but seeing it come to life in under 24 hours still felt like magic.
By Day Two, we could clearly see early growth. The radicles—the first roots—had started to push downward, anchoring themselves in the moist medium, while some cotyledons (the seed’s first leaves) were already beginning to unfold. It’s an incredible process to watch, especially knowing these strong little sprouts came from seeds grown without soil, under indoor lights.
Every stage of this journey is a reminder of what’s possible with just a bit of care, intention, and curiosity. Whether you're new to hydroponics or a seasoned grower, there’s something powerful about witnessing the cycle continue, especially when you’re part of each step.
We’re excited to keep sharing this story as the arugula grows, matures, and eventually provides us with the next round of seeds—all from a simple indoor setup. You can follow the full journey through the As We Grow tabs on our website, where we’ll be posting updates, tips, and ideas to inspire your own growing adventures.
Whether you’re growing indoors or out, with soil or without, you’re part of this growing community.
Until next time, have a beautiful day — As We Grow!
