  • Daily Dose Of Beauty at Waterfront Trail.

I still have many images to share from my trips around Oshawa. I share two each day, and with one of them, I like to share some thoughts or reflections inspired by what I noticed in that moment.

It might be grey outside with rain on the way, but this morning I get to share something colourful and full of beauty.

Take a closer look at this Monarch. Do you notice its wings spread across the flowers as it takes in nourishment? Can you see its proboscis reaching into the flower in front of it? Maybe you wonder which flower it will visit next — perhaps one of those star-like blooms with the bright yellow centre.

Look even closer at its wings. They aren't perfectly smooth or untouched. You can see signs of wear from the life this butterfly has already lived. Those imperfections are part of its journey.

In many ways, we are no different.

We all carry scars. Some are visible and others are known only to us. We have travelled different paths, faced different challenges, and continue moving through our own individual journeys. Yet we share some very basic needs — including nourishment, movement, rest, and moments that support our overall well-being.

For this Monarch, nourishment comes directly from the flowers it visits. For us, plants are also an important part of our food system, providing nutrients that help support our bodies. Different species have very different nutritional needs, but throughout nature we can see the importance of finding the nourishment needed to continue.

There is another kind of nourishment in this moment, too.

Simply looking at an image of something beautiful can give us an opportunity to pause. Maybe it is only for a few seconds, but it can shift our attention away from everything happening around us and toward one small detail we might otherwise have missed.

Health and wellness aren't about being perfect or travelling through life without scars. They can also be about paying attention to what we need, nourishing ourselves as best we can, allowing ourselves moments of rest, and continuing our journey.

Today, this Monarch offers one of those moments.

Pause. Look a little closer. Notice the details.

Sometimes beauty itself can be part of the pause our minds need.

  • I truly appreciate the beauty of nature, and I enjoy your eye for capturing beautiful images. You don’t have to post every week; posting every second week or even monthly would be perfectly fine. With so many options to choose from, it takes time to fully appreciate each picture. There are 21 choices to go through, and I can select the images I want to save. The words "love," "compassion," and "community" resonate deeply with me, as they convey a sense of connection and empathy. I really enjoy this aspect of the network. Thanks for being awesome!
