🦋 Daily Dose of Beauty at the Monarch Waystation Butterfly Garden

Same butterfly. Same flowers. Two different moments.

Sometimes, when we pause and simply watch, nature gives us an opportunity to notice something we might otherwise miss.

This butterfly was just doing its thing, slowly moving across the flowers and sipping nectar. I was able to capture a few images as it went about its business. In both of today's images, you can see its proboscis reaching deep into the flowers.

In one image, it is feeding near the upper part of the flowers. In the next, it has methodically moved across to another area.

It didn't simply sip once and immediately fly away. Where it found what it needed, it continued feeding. Eventually, when it had enough or the flowers no longer provided what it was looking for, it moved on.

There is a little health and wellness reminder in that.

🦋 Pause. Pay attention. Nourish. Move forward.

Many of us rush from one meal to the next without giving much thought to what we are eating or how our bodies respond. Slowing down and paying attention can help us become more aware of hunger, fullness, cravings and the variety of foods our bodies need.

I have learned to pay more attention to those signals in my own life.

One example for me is bananas. At times I find myself craving a banana, and I have also noticed that leg cramps sometimes follow when I haven't been eating foods that provide enough of certain nutrients. Bananas are one familiar source of potassium.

But they aren't the only option.

🌱 Dandelion greens also provide potassium, along with other vitamins and minerals. They aren't nutritionally identical to a banana, and neither food should be considered a treatment for leg cramps, but both can be part of a varied, nutrient-rich diet.

That brings me back to the butterfly.

It doesn't depend on one single flower. It moves through the garden, finding nourishment in different places.

    We can do something similar.

Sometimes the food we normally choose isn't available or affordable. By learning about different foods and plants, we can discover other ways to add nutrition to our day.

    The butterfly searches the flowers.

I grow and learn about plants.

And both remind me of something simple:

Pay attention to what helps nourish you. Take what you need from the options available to you, and then keep moving forward.

Sometimes health and wellness begins with something as simple as slowing down long enough to notice.

    🌿 Pause. Observe. Learn. Nourish.

  • I truly appreciate the beauty of nature, and I enjoy your eye for capturing beautiful images. You don’t have to post every week; posting every second week or even monthly would be perfectly fine. With so many options to choose from, it takes time to fully appreciate each picture. There are 21 choices to go through, and I can select the images I want to save. The words "love," "compassion," and "community" resonate deeply with me, as they convey a sense of connection and empathy. I really enjoy this aspect of the network. Thanks for being awesome!
