Bringing the Collective Together for the Next Steps
The work of Not Just A Food Program has always been part of something larger. It may begin with a sandwich, a bottle of water, a free hug, or a simple conversation, but the real goal has always been to build pathways toward greater support, education, health, wellness, responsibility, and hope.
That larger vision is the ILFJL Collective.
The ILFJL Collective is being built as the foundation for a private social network that also acts as our website and basic operations hub for the programs, projects, and activities connected to this work. It is a place where community efforts can be organized, shared, supported, and expanded with purpose.
Within the collective, you will find the connected efforts of LIFE Community Project, Just Community Networks, FIFE – Food Is For Everyone, LIFE – Love Is For Everyone, Inspiring Times, and the future goal of the LIFE Transitional Housing Program.
Each part has its own focus, but they are all connected by the same purpose: bringing more love, compassion, practical support, and real opportunities to people in our community.
A Collective Community Effort
The ILFJL Collective is not being built as one single program working alone. It is being built as a collective community effort, where different projects support one another and create stronger pathways forward.
Not Just A Food Program creates the first connections through food, conversation, care, and small-step support.
FIFE – Food Is For Everyone focuses on growing, nutrition, food education, and making healthier options more accessible.
LIFE – Love Is For Everyone reminds us that compassion, dignity, and human connection must remain at the centre of everything we do.
Just Community Networks, starting with Just Oshawa, helps build local awareness, connect people, and create opportunities for small businesses, community members, and support efforts to work together.
Inspiring Times helps share the stories, encouragement, education, and positive messaging needed to keep moving forward.
Together, these efforts create something stronger than any one project could build on its own.
Built in Oshawa, Designed to Grow Beyond Oshawa
The first focus is Oshawa because this is where the work is happening, where the need is visible, and where the foundation is being built. But the vision does not end here.
The goal is to create a model that can expand into other communities across Durham Region and beyond.
Every community has its own needs, challenges, and opportunities. The collective approach allows each community to build around local realities while still being connected to a larger foundation of shared values, tools, learning, and support.
This is not about copying one program exactly from place to place. It is about creating a flexible foundation that can grow where people are ready to take part.
Wellness Without Barriers Oshawa as the Next Major Step
Wellness Without Barriers Oshawa is one of the next major steps in this journey.
With an indoor education and activity space, we can expand opportunities for learning, growing, creating, and building healthier habits. It will allow us to offer more structured education through FIFE – Food Is For Everyone, health and wellness activities, small-space growing, practical workshops, and community-supported projects.
This space will help turn ideas into action.
It will provide opportunities for participants to learn how to grow food and wellness plants, make practical products, use tools, support fundraising efforts, and take part in activities that improve health and wellness without financial barriers.
Growing Toward Greater Sustainability
One of the long-term goals connected to Wellness Without Barriers Oshawa is the use of grow domes and other sustainable growing spaces.
We have been researching natural and practical methods to extend the growing season in ways that make sense for our climate. The goal is to grow more food and wellness plants year-round without major ongoing costs.
By producing useful items throughout the year, these growing spaces can support education, nutrition, wellness products, and fundraising. This creates a path toward greater self-funding and less dependency on outside systems.
The more we can grow, create, teach, and share, the stronger and more sustainable the collective becomes.
Building Toward LIFE Transitional Housing
The long-term vision includes the LIFE Transitional Housing Program.
This will not happen overnight. It may still be years before we see the full vision become reality. But the foundation is already being built through every small step being taken today.
Not Just A Food Program, Wellness Without Barriers Oshawa, FIFE – Food Is For Everyone, Just Oshawa, and the ILFJL Collective are all part of the preparation for something larger.
Transitional housing must be about more than shelter. It must include responsibility, education, health, wellness, food, practical skills, accountability, compassion, and community support.
That is why the steps we are taking now matter.
We Have a Plan, and We Have Faith
This work has taken years to build, and it will continue to take time. We have been learning, researching, testing ideas, building relationships, and creating practical options that can grow into something much larger.
We have a plan.
We have been working on these options.
And we have faith that, step by step, these goals can be achieved.
The first steps toward the full Wellness Without Barriers Oshawa are beginning now. From there, the vision can continue to expand into other communities across Durham Region and beyond.
An Invitation to Be Part of the Work
The full details of how this grows will require participation from those who truly want to be part of the effort.
This is not just about watching from the outside. It is about people, businesses, volunteers, supporters, learners, growers, makers, and community members coming together with a desire to help build something rooted in love and compassion.
The ILFJL Collective is being built for real community action.
For Oshawa.
For Durham Region.
For every person willing to take part in creating more hope, more support, more opportunity, and more love in our communities.
Not Just A Food Program may have started with food, but the vision has always been much greater.
It is about building a foundation for lasting change.
