The Wellness Profiles project began as a way to better understand the vitamins, minerals, plants, and natural compounds found in foods, herbs, and medicinal plants. The goal is to create an easy-to-understand resource that helps people learn more about health and wellness while also discovering plants that can be found in Ontario, Canada or grown in small spaces.

Why We Include Ontario Plants and Small-Space Growing

A core goal of the Wellness Profiles is to connect learning with practical action.

Whenever possible, we include examples of plants native to Ontario, Canada. These plants help us better understand the natural world around us and highlight the value of local biodiversity.

However, not every plant compound can be found in Ontario-native species. In those cases, we also explore plants that can be grown indoors year-round in small spaces. This approach makes wellness education more accessible, allowing people to discover and grow some of their own nutritious plants regardless of available outdoor space.

Growing even a few herbs or edible plants can help strengthen our connection to nature, encourage healthier choices, and provide a greater appreciation for the remarkable compounds found within plants.

The Bigger Picture

Plant compounds remind us that health and wellness are about more than individual nutrients. Nature provides an incredible diversity of compounds working together in ways that researchers continue to explore.
