What to Know, What to Avoid, and Why Education Matters
At As We Grow With Purpose, we believe health and wellness must include our pets. Many plants grown for human wellness can also support animalsābut not all plants are appropriate for pets in the same ways.
Hot peppers are a powerful example of why education, moderation, and species-specific knowledge matter when it comes to plant use.
Hot peppers are NOT recommended for internal use by pets.ā¦
Growing Heat, Health, and Resilience Indoors Year-Round
At As We Grow With Purpose, hot peppers are more than just a flavorful plant. They are a living example of how food, wellness, and self-reliance can come together in small indoor spaces. By growing hot peppers year-round using the Kratky hydroponic method and our own designed containers made from recycled materials, we demonstrate real, accessible options for nutrition and health supportāno soil, no expensive systems, and no outdoor space required.

Growing With Purpose ā Health & Wellness in Small Spaces
When I decided to focus on growing my own plants indoors using theĀ Kratky method, I wasnāt looking for complexity. I was looking forĀ purposeāplants that were versatile, gentle, supportive, and meaningful when used daily. Plants that could grow well inĀ small spaces, provideĀ multiple uses, and work together as a simple, year-round routine.
Thatās how I landed on these six:
Mullein ⢠Plantain ⢠Basil ⢠Dandelion ⢠Lavender ⢠Peppermint
Together, they form a balanced foundation for general health and wellnessānot as isolated solutions, but asĀ a system that complements itself.
Each of these plants brings something different to the table:
LeavesĀ that soften, soothe, and nourish
RootsĀ that provide depth and grounding
FlowersĀ that offer aroma and subtle support
Aromatic oilsĀ that work instantly through scent
When grown and used together, they cover:
Daily teas
Balms and lip care
Aromatic grounding
Gentle routines that fit into real life
And importantly, they all grow well indoors,Ā year-round, using simple Kratky containers in kitchens, shelves, and small grow spaces.
Mullein was an easy choice. Itās soft, neutral, and grounding.
InĀ tea, mullein brings a smooth, gentle texture that makes blends easier to drink regularly.
It pairs beautifully withĀ peppermint, which adds brightness and aroma.
Mullein + Peppermint TeaĀ A simple, everyday tea that feels comforting and refreshing at the same timeāone plant softens, the other lifts.
Mullein is also one of my base plants for infused oils because it extracts well and blends smoothly with others.
Peppermint does a lot of heavy lifting in small routines.
In tea, it adds clarity and a clean finish
In balms, it brings a cooling, refreshing sensation
In aroma, it instantly wakes up the senses
It complements nearly every other plant in this group.
Mullein + Peppermint TeaĀ for a balanced daily blend
Mullein + Dandelion + Peppermint Lip Balm, where peppermint adds freshness and dandelion adds depth
Peppermint is the plant that keeps things from feeling flat or heavy.
Dandelion brings grounding and density.
TheĀ leavesĀ add nutritional richness
TheĀ rootsĀ add depth to oils and balms
In balms, dandelion helps anchor lighter plants like mullein and peppermint.
Mullein + Dandelion + Peppermint Lip Balm
Mullein keeps the blend smooth
Dandelion adds richness
Peppermint provides a clean, refreshing finish
This trio works because each plant plays a different roleānone overpower the others.
Plantain is one of the most underestimated plants.
It doesnāt shoutābut it supports everything around it.
Itās excellent in infused oils
It creates a stable base for balms
It pairs well with both floral and aromatic plants
Plantain is often my āconnectorā plantāhelping blends feel complete and well-rounded.
Lavender earned its place not just for how it grows, but for how itās used.
Dried lavender creates anĀ instant atmosphere
Infused oils blend beautifully into balms
Even small amounts go a long way
KeepingĀ dried lavenderĀ nearbyāon a shelf, in a jar, or in a small sachetācreates a space you can step into when you need to slow down.
No prep. No tools. Just presence.
Basil may be the most underestimated wellness plant of all.
TheĀ simple act of rubbing a basil leaf between your fingersĀ releases aromatic oils that canĀ instantly lift your mood. Itās one of the fastest, most accessible ways to shift your headspace.
Fresh basil in meals
Basil tea made from dried leaves
Dried basil stored nearby for aroma
Combined with lavender, basil creates a warm, grounding scent that feels both comforting and uplifting.
One of the biggest reasons I chose these plants is thatĀ they donāt all require preparation.
Basil leaf, gently crushed
Dried lavender in the room
Peppermint aroma when opening a jar
These areĀ on-demand momentsāsmall pauses that support mental and emotional balance without effort.
Using theĀ Kratky method, these plants:
Grow indoors with minimal equipment
Thrive in reused containers
Fit on shelves, counters, and small tents
Provide fresh and dried material year-round
This makes health and wellnessĀ accessible, repeatable, and realisticāeven in apartments.
These six plants arenāt the endātheyāre the beginning.
Once you grow and use them regularly, you naturally start to:
Discover new combinations
Adjust blends to your needs
Explore deeper uses
Build routines that actually stick
This is why I chose themānot for trends or hype, but becauseĀ they work together, they grow well indoors, and they support aĀ whole-life approach to health and wellness.
Health and wellness donāt come from doing more.Ā They come fromĀ choosing wisely, growing intentionally, and using what you grow with care.
Six plants.Ā Small spaces.Ā Year-round nourishment.
Built with purpose. š±
