What to Know, What to Avoid, and Why Education Matters
At As We Grow With Purpose, we believe health and wellness must include our pets. Many plants grown for human wellness can also support animals—but not all plants are appropriate for pets in the same ways.
Hot peppers are a powerful example of why education, moderation, and species-specific knowledge matter when it comes to plant use.
Hot peppers are NOT recommended for internal use by pets.…
Growing Heat, Health, and Resilience Indoors Year-Round
At As We Grow With Purpose, hot peppers are more than just a flavorful plant. They are a living example of how food, wellness, and self-reliance can come together in small indoor spaces. By growing hot peppers year-round using the Kratky hydroponic method and our own designed containers made from recycled materials, we demonstrate real, accessible options for nutrition and health support—no soil, no expensive systems, and no outdoor space required.

Growing Calm, Wellness, and Resilience — Indoors, Year-Round
As We Grow With Purpose is about living examples—real plants, real processes, and real options that can be repeated in small spaces. Lavender is one of the plants we grow indoors, year-round using the Kratky method, in our own purpose-designed containers made from recycled materials. This approach keeps growing accessible, affordable, and achievable for anyone, even without outdoor space.

Lavender is a gentle but powerful wellness plant. It does not rely on intensity or high doses—its strength is in consistency, calm, and routine. For indoor growers, lavender is ideal because it:
Thrives in controlled indoor environments
Adapts well to hydroponic growing
Produces usable harvests year-round
Supports multiple wellness uses from a single plant
Growing lavender indoors ensures a steady, pesticide-free supply for everyday wellness.
All As We Grow With Purpose plants are grown using passive hydroponics (Kratky)—no pumps, no electricity beyond lighting, and minimal ongoing inputs.
Method: Kratky (non-circulating hydroponics)
Containers: Purpose-designed, reused & recycled food-grade materials
Medium: Inert growing media to support roots
Environment: Indoor grow lights, stable temperatures, year-round growth
Focus: Accessibility, simplicity, and repeatability
Lavender prefers good airflow and light, both of which are easily controlled indoors. This method allows us to grow consistently without soil, pests, or seasonal limitations.
Lavender’s wellness value comes from its natural plant compounds rather than high vitamin content.
Key compounds include:
Linalool – Supports calm and nervous system balance
Linalyl acetate – Associated with relaxation and tension release
Flavonoids & Polyphenols – Antioxidants that support cellular health
Tannins – Traditionally used for skin balance
Coumarins – Historically associated with relaxation support
These compounds are present in the flowers and released through drying, infusion, and gentle heat.
Lavender tea is one of the simplest and most accessible uses.
Traditionally supports:
Stress reduction
Relaxation before rest
Emotional balance
Mild digestive comfort
Preparation:
Use 1–2 teaspoons dried culinary-grade lavender buds
Steep in 1 cup hot (not boiling) water for 5–10 minutes
Strain and enjoy
Lavender is often blended with other calming herbs grown indoors, such as lemon balm or chamomile.
Lavender grown indoors is ideal for clean, consistent oil infusions.
Traditionally supports:
Minor skin irritations
Muscle tension
Relaxation during massage
Basic infusion method:
Fill a jar with dried lavender
Cover with a carrier oil (olive, sunflower, or jojoba)
Infuse for 4–6 weeks, shaking occasionally
Strain and store in a cool, dark place
Used in balms, massage oils, or skin care blends.
Lavender baths are used for full-body relaxation.
Traditionally supports:
Stress relief
Muscle relaxation
Improved sleep routines
How we use it:
Add ½–1 cup dried lavender or a strong tea infusion to warm bathwater
Soak for 15–20 minutes
Even without ingestion, lavender supports wellness through scent.
Uses include:
Sachets for pillows and drawers
Dried bundles in living spaces
Gentle steam inhalation for calming routines
These uses require very little plant material and are ideal for small harvests.
Lavender is harvested once flowers are aromatic and fully formed.
Cut stems and bundle loosely
Hang or lay flat in a dark, well-ventilated space
Allow to dry fully before storage
Indoor drying ensures consistent quality and avoids contamination.
Lavender represents what As We Grow With Purpose is about:
Growing real wellness indoors
Using recycled materials
Sharing practical, repeatable methods
Creating access to health-supportive plants year-round
This is not about perfection or profit—it is about real options, lived experience, and growing with intention.
