What to Know, What to Avoid, and Why Education Matters
At As We Grow With Purpose, we believe health and wellness must include our pets. Many plants grown for human wellness can also support animals—but not all plants are appropriate for pets in the same ways.
Hot peppers are a powerful example of why education, moderation, and species-specific knowledge matter when it comes to plant use.
Hot peppers are NOT recommended for internal use by pets.…
Growing Heat, Health, and Resilience Indoors Year-Round
At As We Grow With Purpose, hot peppers are more than just a flavorful plant. They are a living example of how food, wellness, and self-reliance can come together in small indoor spaces. By growing hot peppers year-round using the Kratky hydroponic method and our own designed containers made from recycled materials, we demonstrate real, accessible options for nutrition and health support—no soil, no expensive systems, and no outdoor space required.

Indoor, Year-Round Growing for Health & Wellness
Peppermint (Mentha × piperita) is a foundational wellness plant in the As We Grow With Purpose series. Easy to grow, fast to regenerate, and highly versatile in use, peppermint is an ideal example of how small-space, indoor growing can support daily health and wellness year-round.
All As We Grow With Purpose activities focus on growing indoors using the Kratky hydroponic method and custom-designed containers made from recycled materials. These methods remove barriers such as outdoor space, soil access, and seasonal limitations, allowing anyone to grow meaningful wellness plants right where they live.
This article is for educational purposes only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.
Peppermint brings together three key goals of this project:
Accessible wellness education
Low-cost, repeatable growing methods
Practical, everyday health applications
Peppermint grows quickly, tolerates indoor conditions well, and can be harvested repeatedly. This makes it ideal for continuous use while learning how food and plants directly support health and wellness.
Peppermint has been used for centuries across many cultures as a daily wellness plant rather than an occasional remedy.
Traditional uses include:
Supporting digestion and easing stomach discomfort
Reducing gas, bloating, and cramping
Calming nausea and motion sickness
Relieving headaches and muscle tension
Supporting clear breathing and sinus comfort
Freshening breath and supporting oral health
Cooling the body during heat or fever
Promoting mental clarity and alertness
These same uses remain relevant today and align closely with modern wellness needs.
Peppermint contains vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds that contribute to whole-body wellness when used regularly.
Vitamin A (beta-carotene) – Supports immune function, eye health, and skin integrity
Vitamin C – Supports immune health and antioxidant protection
B-complex vitamins (trace amounts) – Support energy metabolism and nervous system function
Magnesium – Supports muscle relaxation and nervous system balance
Calcium – Supports bone and muscle health
Potassium – Helps maintain fluid balance and heart function
Iron – Supports oxygen transport in the body
While peppermint is used in modest quantities, consistent access from indoor growing adds meaningful nutritional support over time.
Peppermint’s wellness value comes largely from its natural bioactive compounds.
Menthol – Provides cooling effects, supports digestion, respiratory comfort, and tension relief
Flavonoids – Antioxidants that support cellular and cardiovascular health
Rosmarinic acid – Supports immune balance and the body’s natural inflammatory response
Volatile oils – Contribute antimicrobial balance and calming aromatherapy effects
These compounds remain strong in fresh, home-grown peppermint.

Large amounts may aggravate acid reflux in some individuals
Concentrated oils must always be diluted

Pregnant or nursing individuals should consult a qualified professional
