What to Know, What to Avoid, and Why Education Matters
At As We Grow With Purpose, we believe health and wellness must include our pets. Many plants grown for human wellness can also support animals—but not all plants are appropriate for pets in the same ways.
Hot peppers are a powerful example of why education, moderation, and species-specific knowledge matter when it comes to plant use.
Hot peppers are NOT recommended for internal use by pets.…
Growing Heat, Health, and Resilience Indoors Year-Round
At As We Grow With Purpose, hot peppers are more than just a flavorful plant. They are a living example of how food, wellness, and self-reliance can come together in small indoor spaces. By growing hot peppers year-round using the Kratky hydroponic method and our own designed containers made from recycled materials, we demonstrate real, accessible options for nutrition and health support—no soil, no expensive systems, and no outdoor space required.
Hot peppers have been used for thousands…
Understanding the plant’s nutrients, compounds, and responsible use
As We Grow With Purpose means we don’t simply grow plants—we study them deeply, understand their limits, and decide if and when they belong in a wellness-supportive plan. Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is already part of our growing space for human wellness. This article documents how the plant itself, through its natural nutrient and compound profile, has traditionally been used for pets in gentle, low-impact ways.
This content is educational only and focuses on supportive care. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, recommend, or replace veterinary care.
Pet use of mullein is intentionally limited.
Leaves – primary part used for pets
Flowers – used only in specific external preparations
Seeds – not used for pets
Leaves are harvested young to mid-mature, dried slowly, and stored cleanly to preserve their natural compounds without concentration or modification.
Why the whole plant matters
Mullein’s value comes from synergy, not strength. No single compound defines the plant. Instead, its nutrients and plant compounds work together to gently support tissues, comfort systems, and maintain balance—an approach that aligns well with the sensitivity of animals.
Vitamin C Supports immune defense, connective tissue health, and antioxidant protection
Vitamin A (trace) Supports epithelial tissue integrity, including skin and respiratory lining
B-Complex Vitamins (trace) Support metabolic processes and overall cellular function
Calcium Supports tissue strength, skeletal integrity, and muscular function
Magnesium Supports muscle relaxation and nervous system balance
Potassium Supports hydration, fluid balance, and cardiovascular function
Iron Supports oxygen transport and energy metabolism
Zinc Supports immune response and tissue repair
Selenium (trace) Supports antioxidant enzyme activity and cellular protection
Flavonoids contribute to antioxidant and tissue-supportive actions.
Luteolin – Supports inflammation balance and cellular protection
Apigenin – Supports tissue calm and nervous system balance
Quercetin – Supports immune regulation and oxidative stress defense
Hesperidin – Supports circulation and vascular health
Iridoid Glycosides Traditionally associated with immune modulation and gentle protective effects
Phenylethanoid Glycosides Support antioxidant activity and cellular resilience
Mucilage Coats and soothes respiratory and digestive tissues
Saponins Traditionally associated with supporting mucus movement and gentle clearing
Tannins Support tissue tightening and structural balance
Polysaccharides Support immune resilience and long-term wellness
Volatile Oils (trace) Support respiratory comfort and aromatic balance
(Methods only — not dosages, always conservative)
Traditionally associated with:
Mild, occasional coughing
Throat and airway irritation
Seasonal respiratory discomfort
Important preparation note: Mullein leaves contain fine hairs that must be fully strained to prevent irritation.
Used only in small, short-term amounts with careful observation.
Rather than ingestion, gentle steam allows pets to benefit from moisture and aromatic compounds without internal use.
Pet remains nearby voluntarily
No direct steam exposure
Often preferred for sensitive animals
Traditionally associated with:
Gentle ear comfort
Soothing non-infectious ear irritation
⚠️ Never used if pain, discharge, or infection is suspected. Professional guidance is recommended.
Uses well-strained mullein tea
Applied externally only
Never used on open wounds
Purpose also means restraint.
No essential oils for pets
No alcohol-based extracts
No concentrated preparations
No daily or long-term use
No use for serious or unexplained symptoms
Natural does not mean risk-free.
These practices reflect our core principles:
🌱 Low-intervention wellness
🧠 Education before action
🐾 Respect for animal sensitivity
⚖️ Clear boundaries and accountability
We grow once, learn deeply, and apply only when appropriate.
By growing mullein ourselves, we:
Control cleanliness and quality
Understand harvest timing
Preserve natural synergy
Decide if use is appropriate—not just how
This is not about maximizing use. It is about right use.
Mullein reminds us to slow down. When used for pets, it asks for humility—minimal use, careful observation, and respect for limits.
As We Grow With Purpose, we use with responsibility. LIFE – Love Is For Everyone. 🐾💚
