Exciting New Chapter for Not Just A Food Program:
Health & Wellness Year-Round!
We're thrilled to announce a significant new step in our mission to empower the community here in Oshawa! The Not Just A Food Program, the foundation for our LIFE Transitional Housing Program, is expanding its reach to focus even more on health and wellness for all.
Starting this week, we're launching a new effort focused on Wellness Profiles. We'll be asking those in the program to learn more about the incredible relationship between plants, vitamins, minerals, and their bodies. From there, participants can then choose the specific plants they'd like for use in our Wellness In Action options, including custom tea or spice mixes.
For those unable to grow their own, we're making sure you still have access to the health and wellness they deserve. Participants can now request specific plants from our seed bank! We'll then work to grow these plants, bringing the power of natural nutrition directly to their plate.
And there's more good news! We're adding a new option: participants in the program can now request up to three types of plants to be grown specifically for salads. We'll then grow these plants and, when ready, provide fresh salads to be added to the meals we provide.
Year-Round Growth & Community Support
We're fully aware that outdoor growing is great, but it's only seasonal here in Oshawa. Our full attention is on health and wellness all year long, especially when seasonal options are long gone. That's why we've designed our own indoor growing containers and methods using recycled materials to help minimize costs. These recycled materials are free, and we produce our own seeds so that growing the next planting is also free! The only real cost is the nutrient solution, which is minimal. We're even starting a fundraising effort to help ensure there's no cost to those participating within the program or those assisting in our efforts to grow.
We utilize the Kratky method of growing, specifically adapted for small indoor spaces, allowing us to cultivate plants all year long.
Join Our Growing Community!
We understand that some of our participants have space and the ability to grow, while others don't. That's why, for those within the program who wish to grow for themselves, we'll provide all the necessary supplies, including plants and education to help them succeed.
The same goes for anyone in Oshawa who wishes to help grow for others in need. If you'd like to assist, we'll provide all the necessary supplies and plants. Just let any of the admins of the Not Just A Food Program or the Just Oshawa admin know you'd like to help! We'll connect with you to share more about this amazing opportunity to bring true health and wellness to those who need it most.
This initiative stems from a profound realization: access to nutritious food and natural remedies shouldn't be a luxury. Our goal is to share knowledge and build methods to improve nutrition for those who need it most.
We believe that Love Is For Everyone (LIFE)! Join us in this journey towards a healthier, more nourished community.
