Spreading Love and Compassion in Oshawa: A Sunday Reflection
What a beautiful day it was—wearing a T-shirt and soaking up the sun while offering free hugs! This marks the sixth consecutive Sunday I’ve engaged in this initiative, and each week has brought an outpouring of warmth and connection through the hugs shared.
Exciting News for Our Community
I had the opportunity to share exciting news about the launch of our free sandwich initiative for those in need. Once all the details are finalized, I’ll have a poster ready to help raise awareness about how individuals can access these free sandwiches. What better way to show love and compassion than by providing a meal to someone experiencing food insecurity?
Advocating for Change
However, I must address a concerning issue in our city. There’s a by-law that fines individuals for distributing any items—such as food or drinks—without a permit on city property, including parks and sidewalks. Many people have been fined simply for handing out a meal or even a cup of coffee that is homeless. This situation is why I’m here protesting: to highlight the lack of compassion and understanding for those who are marginalized.
Protesting is a fundamental right, and as long as it remains peaceful, it’s up to individuals to choose how they protest without needing a permit. The homeless and marginalized members of our community also have the right to protest, and no city or government can stop that.
Standing Up for Our Rights
I am committed to knowing and enforcing my rights, and I’m here to support others when their rights are violated. I invite everyone to join me each Sunday as I continue this protest until I see an abundance of love and compassion in our Oshawa community.
This initiative, which I call "Love Rippling," takes place at Memorial Park. I encourage others to participate in creating more love and compassion for everyone in the world. After all, actions speak louder than words, and I firmly believe that love is for everyone.
Let’s come together to spread positivity and support for those who need it most!
