Embracing Canva:

How We Streamlined Social Media Content Creation

For years, we juggled multiple apps and programs to craft our social media content. However, recent upgrades to Canva have prompted us to consolidate our tools, and we now rely on Canva for 90% of our content creation. Here’s why we made the switch and how Canva's new features are maximizing our efficiency.

Why We Chose Canva

Before the recent enhancements, we relied on a variety of free tools to manage our social media content. Canva’s recent updates, including the paid version's new features, offered compelling reasons to centralize our efforts. The new capabilities and increased value led us to upgrade, streamlining our workflow and elevating our content quality.

The Power of Consistent and Thematic Content

One of our key strategies is creating short, repetitive, and thematically cohesive content. We avoid spoken words and voiceovers, focusing instead on visually engaging, brief videos that maintain a consistent brand message. This approach not only aids in brand recognition but also simplifies content creation.

Leveraging Multiple Platforms with Single-Use Content

Social media platforms have evolved from basic posting to complex ecosystems with diverse options. To maximize our reach and engagement, we repurpose content across multiple networks. For example, a 5-10 second story video created for Facebook can also be used on Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Tumblr, and Pinterest. By spacing out the posting schedule and sharing the content across different platforms, we extend its lifespan and enhance overall engagement.

Creating and Using Short Videos

Understanding how to craft impactful 5-10 second videos is crucial. With Canva's paid features like Resize and Magic Switch, we can efficiently adapt these short videos for various platforms. We plan a series of short videos that can be combined into a longer video. This longer video, typically around 60 seconds, is then posted weekly, while the short videos are used daily. Short videos have a peak engagement window of about 24 hours, whereas longer videos can sustain engagement for months, especially when organized into playlists.

The Cost-Benefit of Canva’s Paid Version

The $20 monthly investment in Canva’s paid version proves to be a worthwhile expense. While the free version is functional, it’s limited in terms of music, images, and templates. The paid version grants access to a broader range of resources, saving time and effort that would otherwise be spent sourcing these assets elsewhere. For those who lack the time or knowledge to navigate free options, the convenience of paid features is a significant advantage.

Our Commitment to Sharing Knowledge

We are dedicated to offering valuable insights and support to others in our network. We believe in the power of shared knowledge and are excited to announce upcoming free networking events focused on Canva. These events will provide opportunities to delve deeper into Canva’s features, ask questions, and exchange discoveries.

At our core, we strive to assist one another and build a supportive community. We hope you find this information useful and look forward to collaborating with you for mutual benefit.

  • I guess I should start to do a little more education about how to post from the app that is available from Canva and test out the Connect Accounts options. I can be fussy about how content looks/feels and find that connecting accounts is not up to par with my requirements. I have multiple users and accounts so this may not apply to you with an individual small business.
