Let's Connect – Building Connections With Purpose
ILFJL Collective | Just Oshawa | Community Programs and Activities
As we move forward with our various community programs, projects, and activities, staying connected will become increasingly important. We have several ways for people to connect, and choosing the right method will help ensure that messages and requests reach the right place.(direct links bottom of page)
With so much happening through the ILFJL Collective, including Just Oshawa, Seeds Of Hope, The Hope Collective, Not Just A Food Program, and Wellness Without Barriers Oshawa, I want to make connecting easier while keeping communications meaningful, respectful, and manageable.
As participation increases, there will also be changes in how we communicate, coordinate activities, and protect those involved in our efforts.
Connecting With Our Founder – John E Walker
You can find me on several social networks, and I welcome genuine connections from those interested in learning more, participating, collaborating, or supporting our community efforts.
However, there is one important request:
When sending a friend or connection request through Facebook or other social networks, please include a short message explaining why you would like to connect.
I receive numerous connection requests, sometimes from the same profiles several times a week or even daily.
Unfortunately, with the amount of spam, fake profiles, and unsolicited requests circulating across social networks, it is increasingly difficult to distinguish genuine interest from unwanted activity.
If your request does not include a reason for connecting, it will generally be ignored.
This is not about discouraging people from connecting. It is about ensuring genuine requests receive attention while reducing the time spent dealing with spam and unwanted activity.
A simple message is all that is needed. Perhaps you are interested in volunteering, learning about Seeds Of Hope, exploring a business collaboration, or getting involved with activities here in Oshawa.
Knowing why you want to connect makes a difference.
Connecting Through Just Oshawa
As more of our community activities become focused around Just Oshawa, this will be an important place for local residents, small businesses, community groups, and others to connect.
Just Oshawa is being developed as more than another social media presence. It is part of a growing network designed to share local information, promote community activities, support Oshawa businesses, and create opportunities for meaningful participation.
For those living or operating in Oshawa, connecting through Just Oshawa may be the better option, especially when your interest relates to local activities, events, business promotion, or community involvement.
ILFJL Collective – Our Private Social Network
As participation in our programs and activities increases, those becoming more actively involved will be required to join the ILFJL Collective, our private social network.
There are several important reasons for this, and one of the main reasons is to provide a safer, more organized environment for everyone involved.
We live in a time when spam, fake profiles, online harassment, and unwanted communications have become common across social networks. These issues can create unnecessary challenges, especially when coordinating community activities and working with people who may already be facing difficult circumstances.
Some of our programs work directly with vulnerable individuals, including people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, financial hardship, and other barriers.
Protecting their privacy, dignity, and personal information is extremely important.
Our private social network includes different sections with controlled access, allowing us to better manage communications, coordinate participation, and limit access to information that should not be publicly available.
Membership alone does not provide access to every section. Access will depend on a person's involvement and responsibilities within our programs.
This approach helps us:
Reduce spam, fake profiles, and unwanted communications.
Provide a more organized way to communicate with participants and volunteers.
Protect the privacy and dignity of vulnerable individuals.
Limit access to sensitive program information and activities.
Encourage accountability, respect, and responsible participation.
Maintain a community environment built around love and compassion for all.
Our network also operates differently from traditional social media. We do not rely on paid post boosting or algorithms to determine which content members see. Instead, our focus is on direct communication, meaningful participation, and information shared through our own community platform.
Joining the ILFJL Collective does not mean everyone must become a volunteer or participate in every activity. People can continue to follow our public content and learn about our efforts without becoming actively involved.
However, those choosing to take a more active role will need to become members as part of how we organize and manage our growing programs.
Love, Compassion, Respect, and Responsibility
One of the foundations of everything I have been building is the belief that Love Is For Everyone – LIFE.
But love and compassion must also come with respect and responsibility.
We welcome people from different backgrounds, experiences, and circumstances. Everyone has something to contribute, and everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.
At the same time, we have a responsibility to protect those participating in our programs, especially those who may be vulnerable.
Harassment, abuse, spam, and behaviour that places others at risk have no place within our community network.
Our goal is not to create unnecessary barriers. It is to create an environment where people can participate, learn, share, and grow while knowing that their privacy and well-being matter.
No online network can eliminate every risk, but having our own platform gives us greater control over how participation and access are managed.
Choosing the Best Way to Connect
The best method depends on what you are looking for.

Volunteering or active participation: Join the ILFJL Collective private social network as your involvement develops.
Ongoing updates: Follow our public social networks or become a member of our private network for more direct access to community information.
Moving Forward Together
I have spent years building the foundations for these different efforts, and as more programs become active, how we connect and communicate will become increasingly important.
I want to spend less time dealing with spam, unwanted requests, and the challenges of traditional social networks, and more time developing opportunities that can bring real benefits to our community.
There is also a greater responsibility as our programs grow. We are not simply sharing social media posts. We are developing activities that involve real people, real challenges, and opportunities to make meaningful differences in people's lives.
That requires trust, respect, accountability, and a commitment to protecting those most in need.
Actions speak louder than words.
Whether you want to learn, volunteer, support local businesses, participate in our programs, or simply follow what we are building, there are ways to connect.
As participation grows, our private ILFJL Collective network will become the central place for coordinating many of these activities.
The goal is simple: build meaningful connections, protect those involved, and create more opportunities for people to learn, grow, and thrive.

ILFJL Collective private social network link; you must connect with the admin or John E Walker and request the link to join, or you may be asked to join. This provides the publicly available content, and members have their own newsfeed options, what pages and groups they want to see, but all content is posted in real time as it is created. That is the difference: you take responsibility to check when you choose how and when, not what someone else tells you what you get to see first.
