Daily Dose of Beauty at Parkwood Estate National Historic Site

    The little details. 🦋🌸

At first, we see a butterfly resting on a flower. But pause for a moment and look a little closer.

In this image, you can see the butterfly's proboscis almost completely curled up. Look even closer, and you may notice tiny drops of liquid around it. These are the details that are easy to miss when we only give something a quick glance.

I share two images each day. With one, I add some thoughts and reflections like this one. In today's other image, you will see the same butterfly on the same type of flower, but from a different angle. This time, its proboscis is fully extended as it prepares to feed.

Then look at the flower itself. Do you notice its trumpet-like shape, almost as though it is calling out, "Look what I have to offer"? Its petals are a vibrant blue, echoing some of the beautiful colours found on the butterfly's wings.

When we rush past something, we often miss these little details. When we pause, even briefly, we give ourselves an opportunity to notice more.

That pause can also give our minds a short break from whatever is weighing heavily on us. For a few moments, our attention shifts. We notice a butterfly, a flower, a colour, a shape or something we hadn't seen before.

That is where nature can become part of our everyday health and wellness. 🌿

Spending time around nature and intentionally slowing our attention can support relaxation, reduce stress and give our minds an opportunity to reset. It doesn't make our challenges disappear, but even a short pause can create a little breathing room before we return to them.

Sometimes the beauty isn't only in the butterfly or the flower.

Sometimes the beauty is simply in giving ourselves permission to pause, look closer and notice the little details. 💚

  • I truly appreciate the beauty of nature, and I enjoy your eye for capturing beautiful images. You don’t have to post every week; posting every second week or even monthly would be perfectly fine. With so many options to choose from, it takes time to fully appreciate each picture. There are 21 choices to go through, and I can select the images I want to save. The words "love," "compassion," and "community" resonate deeply with me, as they convey a sense of connection and empathy. I really enjoy this aspect of the network. Thanks for being awesome!
