A Journey of Health and Wellness

We’ve made significant strides in our seed production methods, and while we navigate some challenges in transplanting seedlings into their final growing containers, progress is evident. Our plants are thriving, with vibrant dandelions and purple basil creating a beautiful display.

Many of our dandelions are specifically cultivated for seed production, but I also harvest them for personal use. I enjoy picking fresh leaves to eat and dehydrating the yellow flowers and stems. Dandelions are incredibly versatile; they can be made into a delightful tea or used as a nutritious spice mix. I’m particularly excited about my plans to dehydrate dandelion roots to create a coffee substitute, and I’ll be experimenting with hickory roots as well.

I’m also eager to see how my carrots perform in a hydroponic system with clay pebbles. The seedlings are doing well, but the real test will come when I transfer them to larger containers for full growth. Not only will these carrots contribute to my diet, but they’ll also serve as a nutritious addition to my dog’s meals, which include plantain, dandelion, and basil mixed with raw meat a few times a week.

A central theme of my journey is the importance of health and wellness, which is intrinsically linked to self-love. Reflecting on my past, I emerged from a dark period many years ago of feeling unworthy of love. Recently through my recovery from a major stroke and subsequent open-heart surgery, I found renewed joy and a deeper appreciation for self-care. This journey has led me to explore the flavors and benefits of the food I grow, further enhancing my overall health.

I’ve come to realize that my well-being is interconnected with that of my pets. The knowledge I gain about plants not only improves my health but also contributes to the vitality of my animals, creating a cycle of joy and happiness.

Looking ahead, I aspire to provide resources for those facing food insecurity. Many people live in situations that limit their ability to grow healthy food year-round, and I envision creating spaces where individuals can take charge of their health and wellness.

Ultimately, self-love is a personal responsibility. While others can support us, the journey begins within. By sharing our experiences and the lessons we’ve learned, we can inspire positive change in our communities.

As I often say, LIFE – Love Is For Everyone! Let’s work together to create a world where everyone has access to safe and healthy food, fostering joy and well-being for all.

  • I have been growing for many years indoors in my apartment, starting with dirt and now with hydroponics in custom containers. Trying different things takes a lot of time, and this ongoing project moves along slowly. I am looking forward to this winter, having new types of plants and seeds taken from the bushes and fields around where I live. In the spring I will have a new list of plants and seeds I would like to add to my efforts.
