Important Information About the LIFE Community Project's "Not Just A Food" Program

The LIFE Community Project is dedicated to supporting individuals in need through its "Not Just A Food Program". This program offers a free lunch service every Tuesday and Friday, along with the delivery of essential items to those who are part of the program. The goal is to assist individuals who may face mobility challenges or other barriers that prevent them from accessing existing meal and support services.

Currently, the focus is on those with mobility issues or other difficulties preventing access to regular meal programs. We plan to expand the initiative over time, but for now, we are prioritizing the needs of those who need extra assistance.

Important Details for Program Participants

  1. Respect is Key
The LIFE Community Project is driven entirely by donations and volunteers, and we expect all participants to be polite and courteous. We will not tolerate rude behavior, foul language, or disrespect toward volunteers or staff. Repeated offenses can result in removal from the program. Our volunteers and team members dedicate their time to serving those in need, and we ask that everyone show respect for their efforts.

  2. Delivery and Availability
The program is designed to support those who have difficulty getting to other services. Participants must be available to accept deliveries on the designated days (Tuesdays and Fridays). If you are unable to be present to receive your lunch, we offer options to reschedule, but consistent missed deliveries can result in removal from the program. We ask that participants respect the time of our volunteers and delivery drivers.

  3. Donations and Necessities
As a donation-driven initiative, the LIFE Community Project cannot guarantee specific items or necessities with each delivery. We work hard to source donations and prioritize those most in need. The LIFE Community Partners and administrators make the final decision on what items will be delivered, based on need and availability. Volunteers involved in the delivery process do not have control over these decisions.

  4. Program Enrollment and Sign-Up
Participants must sign up to be included in the program. If you do not have access to a regular address, there is a sign-up form available to ensure that your lunch and necessary items are set aside for you. Please note that if you do not show up to pick up your lunch, your ability to access the program may be affected. Front Porch Mentors will decide if and when you can rejoin the program in such cases.

  5. Future Plans
The "Not Just A Food" program is only the beginning of a larger initiative to support the homeless and marginalized populations. With responsible participation, this program will offer more than just meals, expanding into further areas of support. The LIFE Community Project is committed to increasing its impact, ensuring that more individuals in need can benefit from the support provided.

  6. Respect for the Program’s Structure
We want to be clear that Just Oshawa, as a marketing and awareness tool, does not handle the day-to-day operations of the program. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out directly to info@LIFECommunityProject.com, and the appropriate person will connect with you. Please respect the program’s structure and guidelines. Inappropriate actions or communication will be addressed, and those who disregard the program’s policies may be removed.

In Conclusion

The LIFE Community Project is committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals who need support. However, to ensure the program’s success, respect and cooperation from all participants are crucial. Together, we can make a positive impact in our community.

Volunteer Opportunities with the Not Just A Food Program and LIFE Community Project

The Not Just A Food Program has been a great success, and it’s expanding to offer even more support to those in need in Oshawa. We are thrilled to announce that, in addition to providing free meals, the program now includes two free lunch deliveries each week along with essential items to support individuals in our community.

This growth has opened up exciting new volunteer opportunities, and we invite you to get involved! As a volunteer-driven and donation-supported initiative, together we are making a real difference in the lives of those facing challenges in our community.

Weekly Volunteer Opportunities

Tuesdays and Fridays
We need volunteers to help with preparing and delivering free lunches, as well as organizing essential items for delivery.

  • Sandwich Making (10:30 AM - 12 PM): Join us to make sandwiches for the weekly meal deliveries.
  • Packaging (12 PM - 1 PM): Help package the sandwiches and other necessities that will be delivered to those in need.

After packaging, our growing team of volunteers will deliver the meals and essential items directly to participants in the program.

Online Volunteer Opportunities

We also offer flexible online volunteer opportunities for those who prefer to contribute from home. Volunteers can connect with individuals in the Not Just A Food Program each week to:

  • Confirm meal delivery availability.
  • Check in to see what additional items can be included with the meals, such as socks, hygiene products (toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.), and other essentials.

This volunteer role allows you to build meaningful connections with a small group of individuals, learning about their current needs and helping them feel supported. While we cannot make promises, our team works together to source additional items and support beyond the free lunch, including through collaborations with other organizations.

Clothing and Necessities Drive

As we expand our efforts to support those in need, we are launching a Clothing and Necessities Drive. We need volunteers to:

  • Pick up donation items: Help collect donated items from various locations.
  • Deliver items: Help transport the donations to our central drop-off location.

Pick-up and drop-off times are flexible, making this a great option for those who want to volunteer on their own schedule.

Collaboration with Community Partners

We are also excited to be working alongside incredible organizations that share our mission of supporting those in need. Our partners include:

  • Front Porch Mentors: This peer support organization offers life coaching, peer support services, and additional items like clothing, snacks, and bottled water. Together, we are providing free lunches to those without access to delivery and working to increase awareness of our volunteer opportunities. If you’re interested, connect with Mary, the founder of Front Porch Mentors, to learn about their own volunteering opportunities.

  • SOCKS: SOCKS collects new socks and distributes them to local groups and organizations. Founded in Oshawa in 2014, this organization has provided over half a million pairs of socks to those in need. As part of our Clothing and Necessities Drive, we are proud to work with SOCKS to collect new socks for their distribution efforts. You can also connect with Terrol McFarlane Maciver to explore opportunities to support SOCKS' collection stations in Ontario.

More Opportunities Ahead

The work doesn’t stop here! As we continue to grow our programs and expand our support network, we will offer more opportunities for you to get involved and make a difference. Stay tuned for new projects and initiatives that we are launching in the coming months.
