  • 🦋 A Monarch, A Moment, A Journey of Healing 🌸

This image was taken in 2022, during a season of my life when everything felt uncertain. It was after my stroke on July 25, 2021, and before I knew that open-heart surgery awaited me that November. At the time, every day carried risk — the possibility of another stroke was real and ever-present — yet each day I still picked up my camera. I was relearning how to learn, how to edit, how to remember, how to focus. And somehow, in the middle of fear and fragility, beauty kept finding me.

The Monarch butterfly has long been a symbol of transformation, endurance, and renewal. Looking at this image now, that symbolism feels deeply personal. Monarchs do not rush their journey. Their life is shaped by stages — crawling, resting, emerging — each one necessary. Recovery, I learned, works the same way. Healing isn’t linear, and it isn’t quick. But it is possible.

The orange wings glow with warmth and vitality. Orange is the color of life force, creativity, and resilience. At a time when my body felt unreliable, that color became a quiet reminder that energy still lived within me — that my spark hadn’t gone out, even if it flickered. Orange also carries courage, and courage was something I practiced daily simply by getting up and trying again.

The black veins and edges tracing the wings speak to structure and protection. They remind me that strength doesn’t always look loud or forceful. Sometimes strength is the framework that holds us together while we rebuild. Even when damaged, the body and mind work tirelessly to protect and repair — often without us realizing just how much is happening beneath the surface.

The pink flower beneath the Monarch brings softness into the story. Pink is compassion, gentleness, and emotional healing. During recovery, learning self-compassion became just as important as physical therapy or medical care. There were things I could no longer do, memories that didn’t return right away, skills that had to be rebuilt slowly. Pink reminds me that healing requires kindness toward oneself — not judgment, not frustration, but patience.

At the heart of the flower is yellow, bright and alive. Yellow represents hope, clarity, and mental energy. Even on the hardest days, moments of light still appeared — a photograph captured, a new skill learned, a small realization gained. Those moments mattered. They still do.

From a health and wellness perspective, this image reflects balance. The Monarch rests while feeding. It doesn’t fight the flower; it works with it. Healing works best the same way — when we nourish ourselves gently, when we respect rest as much as effort, when we allow joy to coexist with recovery. Photography became part of my wellness practice. It slowed my breathing, focused my mind, and gave me something positive to return to each day.

Today, when plans change and frustration tries to take over, I remind myself of this moment. I had planned to go out and take photos, needing quiet time after a stressful week. When that didn’t happen, I chose a different path — revisiting images from those earlier days, images taken when survival itself was the goal. Working on them, sharing them, reconnecting with that beauty brought the calm back.

This Monarch isn’t just a butterfly on a flower. It’s a reminder that even in the most uncertain chapters, growth is happening. That rediscovering joy is a powerful form of healing. That recovery doesn’t mean returning to who we were — it means becoming who we are now, with deeper awareness, compassion, and strength.

And most importantly, it’s proof that thriving after hardship isn’t just possible — it’s already unfolding, one quiet, beautiful moment at a time.

  • I truly appreciate the beauty of nature, and I enjoy your eye for capturing beautiful images. You don’t have to post every week; posting every second week or even monthly would be perfectly fine. With so many options to choose from, it takes time to fully appreciate each picture. There are 21 choices to go through, and I can select the images I want to save. The words "love," "compassion," and "community" resonate deeply with me, as they convey a sense of connection and empathy. I really enjoy this aspect of the network. Thanks for being awesome!
