I take things slower over the Christmas holidays, spending less time on the streets. It’s a time when there’s an abundance of support for those in need, which gives me a chance to reflect and plan for the year ahead.

However, we’re about to enter a difficult stretch — a time of both feast and famine. While the holiday season brings generosity, it’s followed by a long period where those supporting the most vulnerable struggle to maintain help during the "famine" months. This year, I expect that stretch to be especially harsh.

I’ve been working on plans for the new year because, as someone who's been on the streets of Oshawa for 15+ years, I’ve seen the growing need year after year. Right now, that need is greater than it’s ever been. With careful preparation and planning, I’m committed to working through these tough times and striving to increase support, even when resources are stretched thin.

It’s not about me. It’s not about you. It’s about those who are struggling and in need of a little hope, love, and compassion.
