A Call to Action:

Choosing Love and Compassion for a Stronger Community

For years, I've seen a growing divide in our communities, fueled by fear and policies that harm our most vulnerable. We're told these actions are justified, yet they only seem to create more fear and tear us apart. It's clear these approaches aren't working, and perhaps, they aren't meant to. But what if we, as individuals and neighbors, could start making the changes ourselves, without relying on politicians or big budgets?

I've been working to prove just that, one person at a time, by building resources and fostering a spirit of love and compassion in my home city of Oshawa and beyond.

Our Shared Humanity

No matter our financial situation, we all share a fundamental desire for love and connection. We don't need to focus on religious differences; instead, we can unite under the simple belief that love is for everyone. This shared drive allows us to collectively support those most in need. Vulnerability takes many forms, but how we treat our most vulnerable citizens speaks volumes about the overall health and happiness of our community.

We don't need politicians or religious leaders to define what loving and compassionate actions are. We can see the division and fear they often use to manipulate us into their version of "right." It's far simpler, yet more complex, than a mere statement. We all live with our own truths about love, but we can agree that love and fear are opposing forces. The more we focus on love and compassion, the less room there is for fear. Fear can make even well-intentioned people act in ways they wouldn't normally, leading to harm. To move forward, we must dispel fear through truthful and meaningful debate, allowing us to act rationally and find common ground.

The Power of Choosing Love

Love isn't just a feeling; it's an experience that shapes our understanding. I can share the joy of helping others unconditionally, without judgment, but your own experiences will define your truth. You might have been hurt while trying to help, and that fear might keep you from trying again. But I've learned that while harm can occur, the instances are rare and far outweighed by the profound joy of seeing love returned. By acting with love and compassion, we can even inspire others to change and embrace these qualities themselves. It's a complex dance, yet so simple: the more love and compassion you give, the more you receive in meaningful ways.

The only way forward is to embrace more love and compassion, because it's the only path that will reduce fear and lead us to a more truthful and loving future.

Simple Choices, Profound Impact

Ultimately, it comes down to a simple choice: will you act with love and compassion, or will you let others tell you that these fundamental human actions are harmful? We've seen this play out in our own city of Oshawa, where bylaws have made basic acts of kindness, like feeding someone who is starving, a finable offense and can even become a crime. This makes it harder for those in need to find support because a basic loving action has been criminalized. We've allowed politicians, driven by power and control, to prevent acts of love and compassion. These actions are harmful; they don't solve the underlying issues but instead attack those who are trying to help, attempting to instill fear in those who simply want to assist others in their own loving ways.

It's time for us to stand together and choose love. Are you ready to be part of the change?

  • I come from a background where I often felt overlooked, as if I were a ghost passing by without acknowledgment. After many years of feeling lost, I finally found people who wanted to share the love and compassion I had always hoped to receive. They showed empathy and took the time to listen to me as I vented and expressed my frustrations. With their support and guidance, I learned that hope means much more than simply searching for happy moments.

Now, I smile and greet everyone I pass, and if they wish to talk, I listen without judgment because I understand how it feels to be in that position. Showing someone that they are seen and heard can really brighten their day. Seeing someone smile and feel loved is how I receive my thanks. It is through these simple acts of compassion and empathy that I find joy and hope for a better tomorrow.
