Supporting Wellness Without Barriers & the Not Just A Food Program
Wellness Without Barriers is the larger vision behind this work — creating free, accessible opportunities for health, wellness, learning, and nourishment for everyone in our community, regardless of income, housing status, or season.
The Not Just A Food Program is one of the active, street-level efforts already helping bring this vision to life.
The $5 – $4 – $3 – $2 – Free model is a practical, dignity-first system that helps support both:
• The ongoing operations of the Not Just A Food Program
• The development of the Wellness Without Barriers community space
What Is $5 – $4 – $3 – $2 – Free?
$5 – $4 – $3 – $2 – Free is a sliding-access distribution and fundraising model used for donated clothing and essential items.
Each item moves through five clear stages:
$5 — First listing price
A modest, accessible starting point that helps cover preparation costs.
$4 — Reduced price
Items that remain available are reduced to increase accessibility.
$3 — Further reduction
Items continue to move through the cycle to reach more people.
$2 — Final low-cost stage
A very affordable option before entering the free stage.
Free — Reserved for verified individuals in need
This structured system ensures fairness, transparency, and dignity at every step.
How the Process Works
Donations
We accept clean, usable clothing and essential items in good repair.
Preparation
All donated items are carefully prepared before distribution.
Each item is:
• Washed
• Inspected
• Photographed
• Folded and bagged
This ensures hygiene, quality, and respect for the person receiving them.
Listing & Access
Items are listed starting at $5 and move down through the cycle to Free if not purchased.
Payment options include:
• Cash (in person)
• E-transfer prior to delivery
Items can be delivered within Oshawa or picked up, depending on the situation.
Supporting Those Most in Need
When items reach the Free stage, access is prioritized for verified individuals connected to the Not Just A Food Program then listed online as free.
Many people we support:
• Do not have reliable internet access
• Are couch surfing, unhoused, or living in shelters
• Rely on trusted community partners for communication
When a verified need is identified:
• The item is removed from public listing
• Carefully packed
• Delivered directly to the individual
This protects privacy while ensuring fair and compassionate access.
Future Step: LIFE Community Partner Access
As the program grows and reaches a stable operational footing, an additional support option will be introduced.
Once the program has successfully moved several sets of five bins through the full $5 – $4 – $3 – $2 – Free cycle, a LIFE Community Partner fund will begin to operate.
Through this step:
• Approved LIFE Community Partners will have access to limited funds
• These funds will allow partners to purchase clothing directly at the starting $5 stage
• Items can then be immediately distributed to individuals they are assisting
This allows community partners working directly with individuals in need to access clothing quickly, without waiting for the pricing cycle to move through its stages.
This step will only begin after the program has demonstrated stable operation, ensuring the system remains sustainable while expanding its impact.
How Funds Are Used
Funds raised through $5 – $4 – $3 – $2 – Free support two connected efforts.
Wellness Without Barriers (Primary Goal)
Helping build a free indoor community space where people will be able to:
• Learn practical health and wellness skills
• Grow food and medicinal plants
• Access nutrition education
• Create spices, teas, and wellness products
• Participate in community learning programs
This space will especially support those who lack space due to housing instability or apartment living.
Not Just A Food Program (Current Work)
Funds also support the ongoing community outreach already happening, including:
• Weekly free lunches
• Food access for individuals and families in need
• Health and wellness education
• Street-level support and outreach
This ensures the program supports both immediate needs and long-term solutions.
Built on Dignity — Not Charity
This model recognizes that:
• Some people can contribute financially
• Some people need immediate support
• Many people move between both situations
The $5 – $4 – $3 – $2 – Free system allows support to flow naturally, without judgment or pressure.
Everyone deserves respect, dignity, and access to basic necessities.
How You Can Support This Work
You can help by:
• Donating clean, usable clothing or essential items
• Purchasing items when you are able
• Volunteering time or skills
• Sharing this model with others
• Supporting the vision of Wellness Without Barriers
Every small action helps remove barriers for someone else.
A Simple, Honest Approach
This model exists because:
• Health and wellness should never depend on income
• Access matters just as much as food
• Dignity must always come first
$5 – $4 – $3 – $2 – Free is one more way compassion becomes real, practical support — today and for the future.
LIFE — Love Is For Everyone.
